Working with me

Initial Consultation Process

Begin your journey towards healing with a free, 20-minute consultation on Zoom or by phone. Share your reasons for seeking counselling, and let’s explore if we’re a good fit. If we’re aligned, we’ll schedule your first session, either online or in person.

Counselling and Psychotherapy

When you choose to work with me in counselling and psychotherapy, you’re entering a nurturing and confidential space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and life’s intricate challenges. This collaborative journey aims to bring about fresh perspectives and a deeper understanding of yourself, fostering greater self-awareness. Imagine it as building a bridge; we’ll navigate from your current state to where you aspire to be, with me as your companion.

My approach is integrative, drawing from various therapeutic methods to tailor our sessions to your unique needs. This may include working creatively with worksheets, images, and even stones as they often help when the words don’t come easily, giving us both a subconscious insight into how things may or may not be working out.

Hypnotherapy with NLP

Hypnotherapy combined with Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) constitutes a dynamic duo that can swiftly delve into the heart of your concerns. This transformative approach empowers you to swiftly release anxiety, cultivate mindfulness, and gain clarity amid life’s complexities.

Together, we’ll craft a personalised, solution-focused program designed to meet your specific requirements. Often, you’ll find that just 1-4 sessions can yield significant results. Our evidence-based programs are a blend of psychotherapy, psychodynamics, cognitive-behavioural therapy, NLP, and clinical hypnosis.

Whether you’re working towards goal achievement, boosting confidence, enhancing performance, managing social anxiety, or letting go of the past, we provide comprehensive support.

Meditation

Meditation stands as a potent tool for finding inner peace and nurturing mindfulness. Through meditation, you’ll unlock the potential for a calmer, more harmonious interaction with life’s ups and downs. It equips you with the ability to navigate our ever-changing, often chaotic world with greater serenity.

As a Mind Calm Master coach trained by Sandy Newbigging I can show you a new way to find peace with your life.

Let meditation be your guide on the path to well-being.

Tarot with counselling

Introducing Tarot with Counselling. Used appropriately whilst acknowledging this is for “entertainment purposes only”, this is an extremely effective guiding tool to help you with life events over the coming 3-6 months. I hold the space for deeper exploration for you and allows you to have the time to be seen, heard and understood. This session will last up to 90 minutes, is normally held face to face and after the session you will receive a write up of the cards that came up in the spread.

Allow the cards to guide you. Please specify this when you book.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)

Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT, commonly known as “tapping,” involves tapping on specific acupressure points on the upper body. It’s designed to address emotional distress, physical pain, and anxiety by targeting disruptions within the body’s energy system. The efficacy of EFT is continually being explored, with numerous individuals reporting significant reductions in symptoms such as anxiety, pain, and emotional healing.

You can find out more about EFT by watching this video by Margaret Lynch.

BWRT® (Brain Working Recursive Therapy)

BWRT® introduces an innovative therapy approach, focusing on a different region of the brain compared to traditional methods. This therapy centres around the reptilian complex, which is the brain’s oldest part responsible for automatic responses. What sets BWRT apart is its operation within the cognitive gap, the space between initiating an action and conscious recognition. This allows us to reshape responses to patterns of input. Remarkably, BWRT often achieves impressive results in a single session, all without delving into specific content.

In our collaborative work, my areas of specialisation encompass mindset development, stress management, anxiety, and the dynamics of relationships. Sometimes, all it takes is a supportive hand to bridge the gap between where you currently stand and where you aspire to be. Whether you’re grappling with anxiety, wrestling with depression, or seeking personal growth, I offer a comprehensive toolkit and a range of therapeutic approaches to help you embark on your journey towards becoming the best version of yourself. Your path to a happier, more fulfilling life starts right here.

One must have chaos inside to give birth to a dancing star” – Frederick Nietzsche.

Anxiety and stress can often feel like a relentless inner whirlwind, leaving us feeling out of control. These emotions are natural responses to life’s challenges, from exams and public speaking to everyday interactions. Social anxiety can be especially tough to manage, as it can leave us struggling to find the right words or trigger anxiety seemingly without cause. This fight-or-flight response is deeply ingrained in our biology and, in moderation, keeps us alert. However, when anxiety takes over, it can hinder our daily functioning, prompting us to withdraw for safety.

I specialise in helping individuals regain control over their anxiety. It’s essential to recognise that anxiety doesn’t just stem from our emotional and mental processes but is also linked to the gut-brain connection. Years of subpar nutrition or medication use can disrupt our microbiome, potentially leading to emotional and mental issues, including anxiety and depression. Whether your mind is racing with worry or you’re waking up at night with anxious thoughts, I’m here to provide support and tools for cultivating a calm mindset.

Relationships are the fabric of our lives, providing support, love, and connection when they work well. However, when relationships hit roadblocks, it’s crucial to seek the right kind of help before it’s too late. Whether you’re struggling to feel heard, navigating a challenging breakup, or feeling unsure about your partner’s emotions, I can assist you in finding clarity and solutions.

Traditional therapy might not have yielded the results you desire, and that’s where my interventionist approach comes into play. I’ve been where you are and understand the complexities of relationships. While it’s true that loving yourself is essential, it’s important to recognise that humans learn to love and relate through their primary caregivers. If this foundation is disrupted, it can affect all your relationships. I emphasise the importance of nurturing the “couple bubble” and looking out for the relationship’s well-being.

Neurodivergence—including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and more—describes natural variations in brain wiring that affect how individuals think, feel, and interact with the world. In the counselling room, working with neurodivergent clients calls for curiosity, respect, and flexibility rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Many neurodivergent clients arrive with histories of being misunderstood or pressured to “mask” their differences to fit neurotypical expectations. A trauma-informed, affirming approach can make all the difference. This includes adapting communication styles, allowing processing time, creating sensory-friendly environments, and respecting stimming or unconventional expression.

Counsellors can support by offering structure, clarity, and predictability in sessions, while also exploring how emotional regulation, burnout, identity, and self-advocacy may be playing out for the client. Avoid assuming that neurodivergent experience is always a “problem to fix”; instead, recognise and validate the unique strengths, needs, and preferences each client brings.

Above all, collaboration is key. Ask what helps, what doesn’t, and what might feel safer. Being willing to listen and learn builds trust—and ensures therapy becomes a truly inclusive, empowering space for all minds.

How I Work with Neurodivergent Clients in Counselling

If you’re neurodivergent—autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, or identify with another form of neurodivergence—you may have had experiences of feeling misunderstood, judged, or asked to fit into boxes that don’t feel right for you. In therapy with me, you won’t have to mask who you are. My approach is respectful, affirming, and tailored to your unique way of experiencing the world.

I understand that neurodivergence isn’t something to be “fixed”—it’s a natural part of human diversity. Our work together isn’t about making you more “neurotypical”, but about exploring your experiences in a safe, non-judgmental space. Whether you’re navigating overwhelm, burnout, sensory overload, social anxiety, identity, or just wanting to talk things through, I’m here to listen and adapt to you.

Here’s what you can expect in our sessions:

  • Pace and communication tailored to you: If you need extra time to process questions, prefer written communication, or want to avoid eye contact, that’s absolutely fine. I’ll check in regularly to make sure the space works for your needs.

  • A flexible structure: Some clients like routine and predictability, while others prefer a freer approach. We can discuss what feels most comfortable for you—whether that means knowing exactly what to expect or having room to explore.

  • Sensory sensitivity considered: If you’re particularly sensitive to light, sound, or other sensory input, we can talk about how to make the environment as calming and safe as possible—whether we’re working in person or online.

  • No masking needed: You don’t need to hide your stims, fidgeting, or preferred ways of expressing yourself. Therapy should be a space where you can be fully yourself.

  • Collaboration, not assumption: I won’t pretend to be the expert on your lived experience. I’ll ask what works, what doesn’t, and what kind of support feels helpful. Together, we’ll shape therapy to suit you.

  • Celebrating strengths and identity: You may want to explore what being neurodivergent means for you—or you may not. Either way, I aim to support your sense of identity, confidence, and self-trust.

If you’ve had difficult experiences with therapy before, or if you’re trying it for the first time, know that we can go at your pace. You are welcome here exactly as you are.

Issues of low self-worth and self-esteem can be profound barriers to achieving your full potential. Even if you outwardly appear confident and successful, the messages from less supportive individuals in your past may continue to hinder your progress. These inner struggles often leave individuals feeling like impostors, despite their accomplishments.

I specialise in helping you overcome these inner barriers, allowing you to present the best version of yourself to the world. Through a range of therapeutic tools, we’ll work together to build your self-worth, boost your self-esteem, and silence the nagging doubts that hold you back. Your external success should align with your inner confidence, and I’m here to bridge that gap.
