Not all stress is bad for you; a degree of stress helps you work to maximum performance!
And anyone can get nervous at times when significant events loom. From tests to exams, public speaking, interviews, or for musicians experiencing performance anxiety.
Maybe in social company, you may struggle to find the right words to generate a discussion. Perhaps a significant event has happened and suddenly – for no reason – we get anxious to the point of feeling frozen to the spot. Click here for a first aid routine.
At its worst stress doesn’t just prevent us from performing at our highest, it can paralyse us with fear. That feeling of our palms getting hot, our heart racing and adrenaline kicks in – and we have no idea how to channel that adrenaline positively. We are in “fight or flight” mode.
Chronic stress can lead to health issues if left untreated which may include:
- Depression and anxiety
- Sleep problems
- Autoimmune diseases
- Digestive problems
- Skin conditions, such as eczema
- Heart disease
- Weight problems
- Reproductive issues
- Thinking and memory problems
Anxiety can feel like we are on a fast spin cycle in our heads and we may feel like we are losing control. Check out this page for Anxiety First Aid Recovery.
We know we need to manage it but don’t know how.
If you present with Anxiety / Panic Attacks please ensure you have first consulted with your GP. Several medical conditions can cause anxiety and panic attacks which can include:
- Mitral Valve Prolapse
- Cushings Disease
- Vitamin Deficiency (esp D3, B6 & B12)
- Pituitary gland tumours
- Adrenal Cancer
There are other, rarer conditions as well. This is not to alarm, rather serve as a reminder that if your anxiety / panic has an underlying condition, it is important to either rule this out with your GP or ensure you are receiving the appropriate medical support for your condition.
Where the issues concern fear of insects etc., phobias and other fears of certain situations such as driving, stage / exam performance, in general these can be safely worked on. If you have any queries please just ask!
